Does Indian Education System promote Inventions and Innovations?

Education system in India is said to very strong and vast which covers most of the things possibly which needs to be taught and learnt. We generate new syllabus, revise curriculum and content nearly every year but are we really changing anything? Our experts sit and work for months and month! Where is the result? Why are our students still not thinking about doing something different? Why we are still stuck with IIT’s and IIM’s? What about other interesting, not so popular options which are taken as options just for failures or drop out.

When I joined Home Science hons after my 12th everybody around me said that must be a failure in medical or other things, that’s why here but nobody seriously realized that how much I wanted to be different and do something apart from being a doctor or engineer. I am proud of my decision of coming to Lady Irwin College and learning things which were far away from just being a home science student.

I learnt to stand against odds of life, manage home and work and be always alert towards inventions and innovations. I owe so much to my college and my teachers who made me aware that other side of the world is equally good. It’s just about the individual how much he wants to explore the world around. Opportunities knock at each door it’s about the timing whether there is someone to open the door or people are knocking hard at the door which is closed for most of them.

Sooner or later we will realize that we need to change and sensitize our parents rather than blaming our system of education. Why pressurize the young minds with age old syllabus and aspects rather why not let them explore the new & newer options which will led them to think apart from the crowd thoughts, Just think, brain storm and see what should be the better decision being a follower or a leader?

I remember the time when home science courses were sneered at ; of course the course was entirely designed for girls ; but even girls would demur at the thought of opting for an home science course ... Good post with lots of food for thought ...

Thanks Shantanu..I will say it completely depends on individuals and training that they recieve in their initial years which make them strong enough to go for the unusual and not so common options but still they own guts and skills to excel in their field and be proud of their choice of not following the crowd.

I think people should always let their children follow their heart till the time they are not wrong and at the same time keep them under observation.

One thing that i have noticed and do not like about Indian education system is that they are following the same old method of teaching. Same books with same syllabus and same pattern.

Some new things should be invented to make learning fun for children and they also feel like going to the school rather than making excuses of fever or headache.

The system which gives the 2nd largest numbers of engineers around the world cannot be challenged.
